2012 ASSESSMENT CHANGES
2012 Change of Assessment Notices have been mailed to all effected property owners.  Grievance Day is Tuesday, May 22, 2012, by apppointment only.  Paperwork required form RP524 must be received on or before Grievance Day.  An appointment will be scheduled once completed paperwork is received.  To request form RP524 please call the Assessor's Office at 635-7997. 
 

STAR REBATE
The STAR REBATE has been eliminated beginning in 2010. No rebate checks will be mailed from Albany this fall. This does not change the STAR EXEMPTION program. Basic and Enhanced STAR EXEMPTIONS will still be administered by the local Assessor's Office. Enhanced renewals for 2013 will be mailed in August.

SALES VERIFICATION
To better verify property inventory and condition at the time of sale, all new property owners will receive a sales verification form starting with sales in January, 2002.  Please complete and return the form to the Assessor's Office.  Questions?  Please contact the Assessor's Office during business hours.

EXEMPTION INFORMATION
All exemptions filed by March 1, 2012 will effect school taxes in September 2012, county and town taxes in January 2013, and village taxes in March 2013.

All exemptions filed after that, but by March 1, 2013 will effect school taxes in September 2013, county and town taxes in January 2014, and village taxes in March 2014.

All exemption forms may be obtained in the Assessor's office.  Please inquire to see if you are eligible for any exemptions.

Exemption forms are also available for download from the ORPS (New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services) web site.  Find forms for the STAR Exemption (Basic and Enhanced), as well as forms appropiate for Veterans, Seniors, etc.

STAR EXEMPTION INFORMATION
The Basic Star Exemption for people under 65 years of age does NOT need to be renewed annually.

The Enhanced Star Exemption for people over 65 years of age MUST be renewed annually.  Property owners that will turn 65 before December 31, 2013 must apply for the enhanced Star exemption by March 1, 2013.  The annual income limit for the 2013 tax roll will be $79,050 (2011 income tax year).

OPTIONAL INCOME VERIFICATION PROGRAM
The State has introduced an optional income verification program for Enhanced Star exemption renewal.  Beginning with the 2004 tax roll Albany will verify renewal income for Enhanced Star only from State Income Tax Returns.  This option does not apply to property owners receiving the Senior Citizen exemption with the Enhanced Star Exemption. 

To qualify for the Optional Income Verification Program,for the 2013 tax roll, you must meet the following:

* Enhanced Star Exemption renewals only
* File a New York State Income Tax return
* Compete the Income Verification form with Social Security numbers and file with the Assessor's Office by September 15, 2012

By choosing the optional program,  renewal each year will be automatic.  However, should the household income change significantly, please contact the Assessor's Office.All participants in the optional income verification program ,will be mailed postcards each January.The postcards are to notify property owners that the enhanced star exemption continues for another year.
