Mr. Sykes said Mr. Virginia, the Deputy Highway Superintendent, had weighed the plows and the town can get more money for them if we sold them for scrap metal.

Assessor’s Report:

Ms. Golden said a total of 255 reminder letters were sent to all property owners that have not renewed their Senior Citizen, Enhanced STAR and Disability exemptions.

 

Ms. Golden said the county and town 2012 tax bills were a bit of a challenge with 42 Cold War vet bills to correct and incorrect addresses, due to computer program issues.

 

Ms. Golden said valuation review by neighborhood has been completed for 2012 and Village Green neighborhoods and one Village neighborhood will be reappraised for 2012.

 

Ms. Golden said commercial properties outside the Village are being reviewed and changes made as indicated.

 

Ms. Golden said data collection, permit review and updating pictures continue for 2012 as weather permits.

 

Ms. Golden said preliminary change of assessment notices will be mailed in mid March and informal meetings scheduled late March through April.

 

Ms. Golden said the town has received complete reimbursement from the State for the Fall NYSAA Conference in Buffalo.

 

Ms. Sabin asked what part of Village Green and the Village of Baldwinsville are being reassessed this year.

 

Ms. Golden said the Ford Tract in Baldwinsville and the townhouses and “Woods”, along with Christopher Drive, section of Village Green.  She said these homes have been selling for more than they are assessed.

 

Set public hearing for February 7, 2012 at 7:32 pm to hear comments on the placement of stop signs on Silversides Way at Sand Lance Drive and Waterfront Drive (both ends):

Mr. Sykes said this will allow the comptroller to be in the building and accessible to employees in the most economical way.

033-12-055     MOTION BY Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Dudzinski, to approve the following resolution:

 WHEREAS, pursuant to the requirement of the New York State Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Law, an applicant for a license to sell alcoholic beverages at retail, for on-premises consumption, as well as any applicant for renewal of such a license, must notify the Town Clerk of the municipality wherein the premises is located, and

WHEREAS, this notice is given in order that the municipality, if it so desires, may express an opinion for or against the granting of said license or renewal to the ABC Board,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Board of the Town of Van Buren, that with respect to the application submitted by Seneca Golf Course for a license to sell alcoholic beverages at retail for on premises consumption, the Van Buren Town Board does express a favorable opinion.

Councilor Committee Reports and Comments:

Ms. Sabin said she talked to Verizon representatives right before the WSYR agreement was resolved.  She said the channel should be back on for FIOS customers in the next day or two.

 

Mr. Saraceni encouraged everyone to attend the Big Chill event this weekend.  He said all the money raised will go to charity and Tops Markets is a major sponsor this year. 

 

Ms. Dickman congratulated the Syracuse University basketball team on their 20th win.

 

Ms. Dickman said she is attending a breakfast this Saturday with other local officials from towns, villages and the county to discuss ideas for efficiency in government.

 

Ms. Dickman said she will also be attending the Firemans’ Legislative Breakfast next weekend. 

 

Ms. Dickman said the winter/spring park program brochure is available.

 

Ms. Dickman said pavilion rentals start February 1st.

 

Mr. Dudzinski reminded everyone that the park is open year round with sledding through the winter months.

 

Mr. Tupper said he attended his first meeting at the Canton Woods Senior Center Board of Directors and they discussed fundraising ideas for the facility.  He said both towns have capped their contributions at $80,000.00 a year and the seniors will need to find ways to raise more money. 

 

Highway Superintendent Comments:

Mr. Foster said he took over on January 1st and will provide the town with the best maintenance.  Mr. Foster introduced Mr. Morehouse, Mr. Smart, Mr. Godfrey and Mr. Blaisdell to the audience.  They are highway department employees and he encouraged residents to say hello to them if they see them around town.

 

Supervisors Comments:

Mr. Sykes scheduled a Highway Committee meeting for January 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Town Hall.  He said they will discuss a new five year plan for drainage and new radios for the department.

 

Mr. Sykes said another transformer at the park has blown and it will likely cost more than $10,000.00 to fix.  He said part of the park is without power but the offices are open.

 

Mr. Sykes he met with Boy Scout Troop 173 and they are interested in placing a flagpole in Memphis Park.  He said he gave them the contact information for the Buildings and Grounds Superintendent to discuss a plan.

Engineer Comments:

Mr. Hoy said he is meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers to discuss the plans for the repair at White Bottom Creek.  He said it will be a challenging project and anyone who is interested in looking at the plans should stop by his office.
